Abashiri is a city in the north of Hokkaido. In winter, sheets of 'floating ice' can be seen flowing in from the Sea of Okothsk. Because of the location of Hokkaido, with hot pressure from the south and cold pressure from the north, there are always abundant amounts of snow in the winter months...despite the fact it is lower in terms of latitude compared to places like London or Berlin
