Sapporo Tower: many big cities in Japan have such a tower, which relays TV signals. The one in Tokyo is the highest, is higher than the Eiffel Tower in Paris, but uses half as much steel. An attitude of imitating the West, and exceeding the West was/is a principle spirit of Japanese culture and people, especially starting from the period of the Meji regime, in the late 19th Century.
