I sat by the Zhiben Creek (知本溪), listening to the water flow by. Clouds veiled the surrounding mountains, which appeared and disappeared with the passage of time. Each moment the creek showed a different sight, each moment the mountains reveiled a different face. This ever-changing landscape is where the aboriginese Beinan (卑南) tribe have lived for millennia, undisturbed together with the wildlife, with the forests, the creeks and streams, worshipping the mountains and their mysterious warm water of life.
Buses thunder past, as tourists trampede into this tranquil landscape.
